Meylin Rojas is a 2014 graduate with a bachelor's degree in Theatre Design and Technology who recently competed in the Trash 2 Trends fashion show for Keep Orlando Beautiful, which challenges local fashion designers to create runway looks from recyclables or other items headed for a landfill. After winning Top Design in 2014 and the Avant-Garde award in 2015 at the annual Trash 2 Trends fashion show held at SeaWorld, UCF alumna Meylin Rojas competed a third time on Feb. 6. Miss UCF 2016 crowned

After patiently waiting four years for her chance to represent UCF, senior Ivory Paulk cried tears of joy while being crowned Miss UCF 2016. “I’ve always wanted to be Miss UCF. I’ve been talking about competing in this pageant since I was a freshman. I’m a senior now, and I never got the chance to do it,” Paulk said. “I remember last year I wanted to do it, and I didn’t see any advertisement for it. This year I was vigilant; I looked as much as I could for flyers, and I just did it.” Paulk com

UCF falls late versus Temple

Redshirt sophomore forward A.J. Davis pulled up for a deep triple with seconds remaining in the game and missed, ultimately getting another shot to tie the game with a tip-in off the rebound. The ball however wasn’t off his hands in enough time and the Knights fell 62-60 due to .0001 seconds of time not available to Davis. Temple Head Coach Fran Dunphy candidly described the nature of close games like these as fragile in nature. “It’s a made shot at one end, missed shot at another—you got to g

Knights continues to skid as Houston tramples UCF

The Knights fell to the Cougars 88-61, losing their sixth consecutive game—with their last home victory coming Jan. 16 versus East Carolina. UCF unraveled in the second half versus Houston, shooting 41 percent with 13 turnovers, resulting in 18 fast-break points for the road team. “When a team [is] playing high pace … you want to match that energy,” freshman forward Chad Brown said.  “We played pretty good in the first half and in the second half, we tried to come out with energy and we weren’

Anthony Safadi: The man beneath the blond toupee

Anyone who paid even the slightest attention to the SGA elections last semester has heard of Anthony Safadi. Seen wearing a blond wig reminiscent of Donald Trump and urging students to make UCF great again, it was easy for students to assume that he wasn’t taking the campaign seriously, let alone that he was serious about life in general.

UCF student killed after alleged assault on drug dealer

The Daytona Beach Police Department has arrested the man who allegedly killed UCF student Ethan Halverson. A warrant was issued on April 22 for the arrest of Jimmie Lee Baker III, also known as "Rambo" and "Deonte," who was charged with second-degree murder and is currently being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail.

Scott signs Chloe's Law, named for late UCF student

On Tuesday, Gov. Rick Scott signed into law a bill that would require engineers to install traffic barriers along bodies of water near state roads. The bill, HB 7061, contains a provision called Chloe’s Law, named after 21-year-old UCF student Chloe Arenas, who drowned June 28, 2015, after crashing her car into a retention pond near Alafaya Trail and State Road 408 around 5 a.m.

Cosplay more than a costume at Florida Anime Experience

The sight of wigs, swords and armor will mix with the sound of thousands of eager fans at the sixth Florida Anime Experience this weekend. This annual Orlando event, hosted during the summer months, grew out of the Japanese Animation Club of Orlando (JACO), which formed at UCF in 1992. Now, more than 10 years later, the club has matured into a three-day event attended by 2,600 people each day.
