Easy Ways for You to Find New Article Ideas

We’ve all been there at least once, if not once a week. Staring at our computer screen with no idea what to write. As a freelance writer, sometimes it’s challenging to constantly be coming with new article ideas and new blog posts to write.

Coming up with new ideas is your bread and butter though, and if you’re anything like me, panic starts to set in when you can’t think of anything new. So today, let’s dial back the panic and go through a few easy ways to come up with new article ideas.

Brainstorm for 10 Minutes

When you’re stuck for ideas, the first thing you should try is turning to good old-fashioned brainstorming. Grab a blank piece of paper or create a new document (whichever you prefer) and set a timer for 10 minutes. The goal here is to write down as many ideas as you can think of, no matter the quality of the ideas. Remember, there are no bad ideas while brainstorming. At the end of the 10 minutes, you should have at least one or two ideas that are worth looking into.

Use an Online Title Generators

If your creative side is failing you, give yourself a break by trying out an online idea generator. HubSpot’s blog topic generator asks you to enter in three nouns and then returns with five different blog titles to get you going. The Blog Title Idea Generator by Inbound Now will offer up a new generic blog title with every click. My new favourite, Portent’s Content Idea Generator, not only gives you a title idea but also comes with a fun dose of sass and personality.

Browse Newspapers and Magazines at the Library

Head down to your local library for an hour to browse the magazine and newspaper section. You can look through dozens of current and backdated issues of all kinds of publications. Flip through the pages to see what topics are popular, what’s missing, and gather loads of inspiration.

Check Out Other Websites

Look for websites that specialize in your topic and see what they’ve been writing about. Of course, let’s be clear - I’m not telling you to copy their article ideas. Instead, you can get a sense of what article topics have been popular and what’s working well. You can also take an idea and flip it into something new from your own perspective, filling in the gaps on anything you think was overlooked.

Even though it may not feel like it when you can’t think of another idea to save your life, ideas really are everywhere. It just takes a bit of practice along with some handy tricks to find them. Next time you need help with new article ideas, give these methods a try.
